Overview

Eight-week collegiate-level strength and conditioning camp for athletes looking to improve their performance and fitness level to prepare for the upcoming season. The program includes (3) sessions per week in a varsity collegiate setting and SDC access for the duration of the program. 

Days/Times

  • Gold Group (Gr 6-8)- Male & female athletes entering grades 6-8 as of Fall 2024 - Monday/Wednesday/Thursday, 10:00am-11:00am
  • Black Group (9-12)- Male & female athletes entering grades 9-12 as of Fall 2024 - Monday/Wednesday/Thursday, 11:00am-12:00pm

What to Expect

Lead by the MTU Strength & Conditioning staff, athletes will learn and develop proper training techniques in order to improve overall fitness, increase performance potential, and decrease the risk of injury. Athletes will engage in a progressive training program that translates across a wide range of sports with the intent of improving agility, strength, flexibility, and speed. An emphasis will be placed on performance tracking throughout the camp, so athletes will be able to monitor their progress in detail throughout. Participants will also receive free SDC access for the duration of the eight-week program (outside of training time), which includes use of the fitness center (must be 16+ years of age), pool, and multipurpose room. Take advantage of the opportunity to receive elite-level training in a varsity collegiate setting, right here in the Keweenaw!

Phases:

  • Week 1: Integration (initial assessment)
  • Weeks 2-4: Accumulation
  • Weeks 5-7: Intensification
  • Week 8: Peak (final assessment)

Class size is limited, meets (1) hour per day, (3) days per week. 

Special Requirements

Open to boys and girls, grades 6-12 as of Fall 2024. A packet of required forms will be sent to participants via email once they are registered. The required forms must be submitted within 2 weeks. A water bottle, comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt, shorts, leggings, etc.) and appropriate athletic footwear (non-marking sole cross trainers and/or weight lifting shoes) are required for camp.

$350 per participant (includes SDC access for program duration)

Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Refunds are available until June 3. After June 3, refunds will be issued for medical reasons only.


About the Coaches

Jordan Ferguson, MTU Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

Jordan Ferguson was named the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Michigan Tech in January 2022. Ferguson develops, implements, and leads sports-specific strength and conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits for all student-athletes to both optimize performance and decrease injury potential for the 14 NCAA Division II programs and Esports. Ferguson is a graduate of Michigan Tech, during which time he played fullback on the football team from 2015-20. He totaled 286 career receiving yards, 52 yards on the ground with a touchdown, was a three-time All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection, and the team's outstanding freshman in 2017.

Riley Schreck, MTU Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach  

Riley Schreck begins his first season as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in 2022-23. In his role, Schreck assists the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach in developing, implementing, and leading sport-specific strength and conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits and decrease injury potential for MTU's 14 NCAA Division II sports. Schreck is originally from the State of Washington. He spent two years as a wrestler at Grays Harbor College and earned his Associate's degree in Arts. He then attended Eastern Washington University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Schreck continued his education with a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Western Illinois University.
