P.O.W.E.R. Skating Hockey Clinic: Summer 2023

  

 

MacInnes Student Ice Arena will be Closed for Renovations in the Spring & Summer

 

Michigan Tech Recreation is pleased to announce the upcoming P.O.W.E.R. SKATING HOCKEY SKILLS SESSIONS. The schedule will include sessions for youth hockey players 6U through high school. The main focus of these sessions will consist of deep edge control, quick transitions, agility, and balance drills as well as many other skating movements that are applicable to the game of hockey. Whether you need to make improvements on certain skating skills or further develop skills that you already know, this clinic will cater to all of your skating and training needs.

Age groups are for the 2023-2024 hockey season. Please note that scheduled times and/or age groupings are subject to slight adjustments or changes based on the number of players enrolled in each age group. If need be, you will be notified of any changes before the start of the clinic.

Daily On-Ice Schedule

Monday - Wednesday, July 31 - August 2

  • 6U/8U - On-ice: 5:15-6:05pm
  • 10U/12U - On-ice: 6:15-7:05pm
  • 14U & Up - On-ice: 7:15-8:05pm

Required Dress

Full equipment required. Individual water bottles.

Cost

$75 (Pre-registration via email on or before July 26)
$85 (In-person walk-up registration)

Registration: Opens on May 1. Email Marcie Kierpiec on or before July 26, 2023. Include parent name, phone number, participant name, clinic age group, and level of play for 2022-23 season.

Payment: Cash/check payable to Marcie Kierpiec at check-in for the first session on Monday evening. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver of liability.


About the Instructor

Marcie Kierpiec

The instructor for these sessions is Marcie Kierpiec. Below are some of her coaching highlights:

  • Level 4 coach through USA Hockey with 37 years of coaching experience
  • Lead skating instructor for the Michigan High School Hockey Excellence Program
  • On-ice skating instructor and off-ice strength coach for U18 Compuware AAA team, U16 Compuware AAA team, and U14 Honey Baked AAA team (seasons 2016-2019) 
  • Holds a degree in Exercise Science with a focus on Strength and Conditioning which included an internship (Fall 2016) with USA Hockey’s NTDP where she worked with both the U18 and U17 teams during their off-ice training sessions, as well as, on ice with the U17 team by assisting their regular power skating instructor
  • Lead skating instructor for a number of youth hockey teams in lower Michigan, including the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) and Jackson Area Hockey Association
  • USA Hockey/Michigan Amateur Hockey Association Coach Developer for USAH coaching clinics (Levels 1-4)
