Registration and payment can be completed online, by phone at 906-487-2073, or at the SDC Ticket Office. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver of liability and concussion awareness form prior to participation. Gates Tennis Center is not responsible for the security of property lost, found or abandoned in the facility. Users are expected to keep their belongings such as cell phones and laptops within their sight at all times.
Fall tennis lessons at Gates Tennis Center will begin in November! Kids will enjoy weekly instruction provided by members of the varsity tennis team and will also have limited pass privileges to Gates Tennis Center. Our youth development program is based on the USTA's 1- & Under Program. For a description of the stages of development and to help understand the court sizes and balls used, please refer to USTA Guidelines for 10 & Under Tennis.
In addition to weekly instruction, tennis program participants will be able to play before 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and anytime on weekends. Children under 7 must be accompanied by a parent while playing outside of the lessons.
Parents can also take advantage of this deal and create a little friendly competition with the kids!

Classes may be combined or times may be adjusted depending on the number of participants.
Lesson participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment for lessons, but Gates can provide equipment to those who don't have their own.

Ages 5–7, Levels 1 & 2
36' Court - Foam or Red Balls
The first stage of introducing kids to the game. Kids will enjoy the basic activities and games designed to facilitate the movement and positioning tennis requires as well as develop an understanding of how to compete and score through games with simplified scoring.
Ages 8-10 (Levels 1 & 2)
60' Court - Orange Balls
Older players who are just starting out will be introduced to the game with a slightly larger court and faster moving ball than the 5-7 age group. They will also learn to track the ball and position themselves through activities and games designed to get them playing as quickly as possible. Regular scoring is introduced as well.
Ages 11–17 (All Levels)
Full Court - Regular Balls
All middle school and high school players will be divided into two groups, beginner and intermediate.
The beginner group will be introduced to the technical part of the game through stroke introduction and drills but will soon move to playing points, games and sets while developing their skills.
The intermediate group will continue to fine tune the technical aspect but will also learn patterns and strategy for a higher level of competition.
